Neurodivergent people, including those with ADHD and/ or Autism, frequently experience challenges when it comes to food. The person has often been shamed for these behaviors leading to the ever so common thought “Why can’t I just feed myself?!”
Common food behaviors include:
Binge eating
Forgetting to eat
Craving sugar
Low/ no appetite
Sensitivity to certain textures/ foods
Food aversions
Overwhelmed by buying, making, eating food
Medication side effects including lack of hunger
Eating disorders
Nutrition therapy can help to better understand where these challenges are coming from and combat shame so that the person can meet their nutritional needs and participate more fully in their lives when it comes to food, body image and energy.
